Faster broadband – the journey so far…
The DSSB programme has brought access to fibre broadband to more than 950,000 homes and businesses across Scotland so far and will reach even more this year. Over 95% of premises in Scotland can now benefit from faster speeds, supporting businesses, healthcare and learning and connecting families, friends and communities. Without DSSB only around 66%, and in some areas less than 30%, of premises would have had fibre access.
The programme has been a tremendous success, helping to cement Scotland’s digital future, and the infrastructure that has been built will provide high-quality connectivity in Scotland and an outstanding platform for the next stage of the superfast journey - towards reaching 100%.
DSSB has been estimated to deliver over £2.76 billion over 15 years for the Scottish economy with every £1 of public funding being expected to deliver £12 of benefits to the Scottish economy.

Thousands of people have already signed up and are benefiting from their faster broadband speeds now. But remember, an upgrade to faster fibre doesn’t happen automatically you have to contact an internet service provider (ISP) and ask for an upgrade to fibre.
When will there be 100% coverage for everyone?
The Reaching 100% (R100) programme builds on the success of the DSSB programme. The 100% target will be met as a result of three strands of activity - the R100 contracts, a superfast broadband voucher scheme and commercial coverage.
Additional support will be provided to ensure that everyone can access a broadband service that can support superfast speeds by the end of 2021 delivered through a national demand-led voucher scheme. This will provide grants to broadband customers in non-domestic and domestic premises, offering support to access a range of technologies and suppliers.
Anyone not able to access superfast broadband through the R100 programme by the end of 2021 - even if R100 will ultimately reach them - will also be eligible for that voucher scheme.
Vouchers are helping many to get superfast speeds
The Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme can provide help in the form of a one-off £400 voucher to access better speeds while you’re waiting for your main superfast connection through R100.
For others, there could be £5000 available which can be used to fit a new faster broadband supply.
