The fibre network has been taking shape on schedule across Scotland, bringing access to fibre broadband to 95% of homes and businesses by the end of 2017. Due to the early success of the initial DSSB programme, which saw stronger than expected take up, an additional £15.6 million has been reinvested back into the programme to extend the build until 2019. This reinvestment is called ‘Gainshare’ and it is focussing on maximising the number of premises that have access to speeds of greater than 24Mbps. Funding is being targeted on areas with the lowest speed coverage, meaning that premises in very rural areas who do not currently benefit from any uplift in speed, as well as some ‘new build’ premises constructed between 2012 and 2014, will now all be able to access superfast broadband.
Even if you live or work in an area that won't be connected to fibre by the DSSB Programme, there are still ways to access much faster internet speeds. Find options here to help improve your speed until the faster fibre reaches you.
There are plans underway to reach every home and business in Scotland. You can find out more about them here.
