Faster broadband speeds after fixed-wireless installation

Thursday, 30 June 2022

A fast and reliable broadband connection is important to keeping us entertained at home when downloading games or streaming movies. The Scottish Government has committed to enabling access to faster broadband speeds through R100’s Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS).

The R100 SBVS is open to all eligible households and businesses offering a voucher subsidy worth up to £5,000 – to help cover the capital cost of a new broadband installation.

Various technology solutions are on offer – fixed wireless, full-fibre, mobile or satellite – this will depend on your location and what is available from your supplier.

A resident from New Deer, Aberdeenshire, can now access faster broadband speeds after previously being connected on a copper wire phone line. Their broadband speeds averaged 3-5Mbps before upgrading with Scot-Tel Gould on fixed-wireless through SBVS.

They said: “Faster download times has improved my day-to-day life. My partner and I both download digital games onto video game consoles and the large file sizes would sometimes take days to download prior to upgrading.”

“On my old connection, download times were awful for modern media, and bad weather would disrupt our service consistently.”

“I would recommend superfast broadband to those who are heavy data users and those who stream or download lots of media.”
