SBVS connection for Renfrewshire Farm

Monday, 19 December 2022

Access to faster broadband speeds is making it easier for people across Scotland to work remotely. Andrew, who lives on a farm two miles from the village of Houston, Renfrewshire, now commutes less after using the Scottish Government’s Reaching 100% (R100) Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS) to improve his broadband.

Andrew was experiencing broadband speeds as low as 2-3Mbps before getting access to a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connection through Commsworld, an R100 SBVS supplier.

Andrew can now work more effectively from home and enjoy home entertainment as a result of his new connection.

Working remotely

Andrew said: “I've been working from home since the start of lockdown, so having broadband of this speed has significantly simplified my work and home life. Previously, taking part in Teams calls at work meant that no-one else could access the internet while I was working.

“I can now work at home with no issues while my family can also access streaming sites and other internet content without impacting my ability to work. Significantly, I haven't had to attend the office since my connection went live.”

Home entertainment

“From an entertainment point of view, my family and I can now use all streaming services without any issues, which was not possible beforehand. Streaming and catch-up services would constantly buffer. My son is now also able to take part in online gaming.

“I can now work at home without any issues while my family can access streaming sites and other internet content without impacting on my ability to work. I would recommend SBVS as my connection is significantly more reliable. I can access online services which has made life very much easier. All members of my household are able to use the internet at the same time, without impacting on anyone else in the house.”

The R100 programme is enabling access to faster broadband via three strands of activity – the R100 contracts, commercial coverage and the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme.

The R100 SBVS is available to properties who are experiencing speeds lower than 30Mbps and are not in the current build plans for R100 contracts or commercial coverage. SBVS is open to homes and businesses.
