Mobile connection improves broadband speeds for family in Midlothian

Monday, 11 April 2022

Staying connected has never been more important than it is now. Scottish Government’s R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS) continues to make a difference to the home and working lives of people across Scotland.

SBVS is open to everyone in Scotland with initial broadband speeds lower than 30Mbps who won’t be reached by the R100 contracts or commercial build.

Alistair, from Midlothian applied for an SBVS voucher which enabled superfast speeds through a fixed mobile connection. Fixed mobile can provide internet access using a special WiFi router with a mobile SIM card inside it and an outdoor external aerial.

Home and working life

Alistair said: “When we moved in to our new home 9 months ago we spoke with our neighbours who were experiencing broadband speeds of 10Mbps.

“This was concerning as my girlfriend and I both work entirely online from home and need to be connected at all times, and our 5-year old daughter enjoys playing games and watching videos online.”

Faster speeds

“Without an improved connection, we would not have been able to do our jobs and enjoy streaming movies and music and playing games online.

“The mobile connection we got from the use of the R100 SBVS voucher has enabled us to access speeds of 100Mbps. This speed lets us all enjoy being online at the same time, without compromising.”
